How Long Does it Take to Change the Electric F-150?
Early versions of the Ford F-150 Lightning are available with two battery systems, divided into standard and extended range. Versions of the F-150 Lightning with the standard range battery can travel up to 386 km. Extended-range batteries will push the Lightning as far as 483 km (Platinum) or 515 km (XLT and Lariat). The amount of time it takes replenish the truck’s battery system will depend on which one is equipped and what kind of charging equipment is being used. When an owner of the Ford F-150 Lightning is using:
- 150 kW w/ DC fast-charger and standard range battery, the charging time from 15%-80% is about 36 minutes.
- 150 kW w/ DC fast-charger and extened range battery, the charging time from 15%-80% is about 41 minutes.
Ford recommends keeping the battery charged to 90% capacity to help extend the life of the battery system. Owners should only charge to 100% if the full range is required for an upcoming trip.
Does the F-150 Lightning Use Special Charging Equipment?
There are more electric vehicles on the road today than ever before, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise. The infrastructure to keep these platforms running is also catching up every day. All current Ford EVs (F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E) use the North American standard for charging equipment. This means you will be able to change your battery at almost any charging station you can find. The only exception would be a Tesla charging station — though adapters are available.
